The OHL yesterday named CBJ prospect Luca Marrelli of the Oshawa Generals as the Defenseman of the Month for October.
The 19-year-old Toronto native has 8 goals and 18 points in 14 games so far this season. He's also a plus-13 on the season.
Luca Marrelli became the first Generals defenseman to win the award since former Blue Jacket Michael Del Zotta won in December of 2008.
Marrelli is in his fourth season for the Oshawa Generals. In the three previous seasons, he has scored 11 goals and totaled 97 points. His eight goals this season are already a season high and he's on pace for 39 goals and 88 points.
Marrelli will be eligible for the AHL after the conclusion of this season, as he will have completed four full OHL seasons. So in theory, we could see Marrelli suit up for the Cleveland Monsters for the Calder Cup Playoffs as Denton Mateychuk did last season.
What's Next - Columbus plays the Winnipeg Jets on Friday at Nationwide Arena.
