Most weekends are filled with fun according to player's social media accounts. During the long off-seasons, fans usually keep up with their favorite players via Instagram mostly. This past weekend was no different.
On Friday in a small town in British Columbia, Cole and Owen Sillinger, along with Damon Severson took part in the Kelowna Hockey Fest, a charity event held at Prospera Place.
Per the website, "Funds raised through this exciting event will stay within our community, directly supporting low-income children and at-risk youth with free or subsidized YMCA memberships and access to essential Child and Youth Development programs. These include vital services like Mental Health Supports, Drop-Out Prevention Programs, and Family Support Services, all offered at no cost to families." The game also included a 50/50 raffle and game-worn jersey auction in support of the YMCA of Southern Interior of BC.
Damon Severson played for the Kelowna Rockets during his junior years. He played 191 games and had 106 points. Shea Weber, Joel Edmundson, Curtis Lazar. Tyler Myers, Brent Seabrook, and Jessica Campbell also took part in the event.
Meanwhile, if you head west on Nationwide Blvd, the Columbus Crew played in the Leagues Cup Final against budding rival LAFC on Sunday night at Lower.com Field.
Blue Jacket forward and Columbus-area native Sean Kuraly was the "Match Ignitor" for the game. After busting through a brick wall, he also pushed down the plunger to get the Leagues Cup Final started.
The Columbus Crew went on to beat LAFC 3-1 in the match, securing their second championship in 9 months. They won the MLS Cup last December as well. The Crew also played in the Concacaf Final this summer, losing to heavy favorite Pachuca of Liga MX.
Fans on social media after the match were hoping some of the good mojo would start heading east on Nationwide Blvd towards Nationwide Arena. The AAA Columbus Clippers, the minor league affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians and who also play on Nationwide Blvd, are currently 1st in the IL West with a record of 33-17 and are 4.5 games up on second place.
It was a great weekend for some current Blue Jackets.
