Jet Greaves and the Cleveland Monsters beat the Rochester Americans on Friday night 3-2. Led by defenseman Stanislav Svozil's two goals and Greaves's 28 saves, the Monsters are now just two points back of Rochester with two games to play, both against the Toronto Marlies, who are in the Monsters' rearview mirror.
But this win was historic for Jet Greaves.
With his 28th win of the season, Greaves now becomes the Cleveland Monsters single-season leader in wins by a goalie. He has a record of 28-12-4-2 with a save % of .908 and one shutout. His 28 wins are two behind AHL leader Matthew Villalta of Tucson, who has 30 wins. There is a reason why he was an AHL All-Star.
Greaves will also have a shot to tie the Monsters' all-time wins record. The current record is 60 wins and is owned by Calvin Pickard, who played from 2011-15. Jet Greaves in three seasons is 59-40-12-4 and is close to becoming the greatest Monster goalie of all time, or at least the winningest.
The Monsters have two games to play with both being this weekend against Toronto. It can be assumed that Greaves won't play both games as they are back-to-back, so the best he could do is tie the record. But with both games being important, might we see Jet Greaves in all three games this weekend? If he can't tie or beat the record this season, he very well could have a shot next season if he ends up in Cleveland.
Jet Greaves is cementing himself as an important piece of the Columbus puzzle, and a deep Cleveland playoff run might just secure him an NHL job next season.
