Line Combinations: Stars at Capitals
Nov 3, 2026 5:11 PM

Dallas aims to extend its historical dominance in D.C. as Mikko Rantanen’s scoring prowess anchors a rejuvenated lineup looking to spoil Washington's bounce-back effort at home.

On Tuesday, the Dallas Stars will kick off a short road trip with a visit to the nation’s capital to face the Washington Capitals.

Dallas enters the matchup looking to build on a much-needed victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, snapping a two-game losing streak while benefiting from some additional rest ahead of Tuesday’s contest.

Washington, meanwhile, has been playing strong hockey overall, winning seven of its last ten games before suffering a disappointing 5-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Sunday and will now look to get back on track against Dallas.

Historically, this matchup has heavily favored the Stars, particularly when playing in Washington. Dallas has lost just once in its last nine road meetings with the Capitals and boasts an impressive 19-5-0 record with one tie over its last 25 trips to the nation’s capital.

Stars center Wyatt Johnston has been relatively quiet over his career versus Washington, recording just four points in eight career matchups. However, his linemate Mikko Rantanen may be able to get him going with nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points across 17 career games against the Capitals, including nine points in his last six meetings with Washington.
