Dallas faces a fresh-look New Jersey squad as superstar Connor Hellebuyck makes his Devils debut. Can the shorthanded Stars exploit their historical dominance over the netminder to extend their streak?
On Tuesday, the Dallas Stars will try to extend their winning streak to six games on Tuesday against a New Jersey Devils team that has dominated headlines in recent days.
The Devils made a major blockbuster move by acquiring superstar goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from the Winnipeg Jets, and he will make his first start with the club on Tuesday despite not having played in an NHL game since April.
It's a matchup Dallas should be able to take advantage of, as the Stars have regularly gotten the better of the three-time Vezina Trophy winner of late. Hellebuyck is just 1-5-1 in his last seven meetings with Dallas, including four straight losses, with a 3.20 goals-against average and a .876 save percentage.
The Stars would also like to improve on their recent results against New Jersey. Dallas is coming off a 6-4 loss to the Devils in their last meeting this past March, but the Stars have won four of the last six matchups and will look to make it five.
Dallas is fairly banged up, with five players sidelined: Matt Duchene, Esa Lindell, Radek Faksa, Sam Steel and Oskar Back. That means the Stars will lean on their depth more than ever.
New Jersey, meanwhile, is mostly healthy and has added several new faces beyond Hellebuyck that Dallas did not see in March, including Luke Evangelista, Evan Rodrigues, Anthony Mantha, Jesper Boqvist and Amadeus Lombardi. Those additions have given the Devils a very fresh look on offense.
