The Dallas Stars narrowly beat out the St. Louis Blues Saturday in a 2-1 overtime victory

The Dallas Stars took down the St. Louis Blues 2-1 on Saturday in a tight defensive matchup that needed overtime. It was such a competitive game due to the stellar play from Blues netminder Jordan Binnington, who almost carried his team to the win after making 35 saves on 37 shots and keeping things close for as long as he could.

Stars forward Jason Robertson may be starting to heat up as he scored his seventh goal of the season as well as dishing for an assist for two points on the night. The goal was his second in the last three games and could mean better times are ahead for the California product.

Dallas started the game with almost all the momentum as they generated a couple scoring chances but were ultimately unsuccessful. The Blues started to come back after a Sam Steel tripping penalty for the Stars.

They did everything they could to stop the momentum built from the power play with Colin Blackwell making a some key shot blocks but it wasn't enough to stop Jordan Kyrou. The block saw the puck bounce back to Robert Thomas, who quickly dishes it over to Kyrou and he gets a wide open lane to the net and doesn't miss with a quick wrister past Oettinger's glove.

The Stars were down 1-0 at the end of 20 minutes but they still showed lots of life with plenty of opportunities and it continued into the second. The Blues took a costly holding the stick penalty that put Dallas on the man advantage at the height of their momentum and it showed as just 30 seconds in they tied up the game.

They worked the puck around the St. Louis end until finding Robertson in the high slot and he rips a one-time shot home past the glove of Binnington.

Dallas looked to add onto the lead after getting two other power play opportunities in the period and lead to the lopsided total in the shot department.

Binnington was forced to make a handful of difference making saves with one being robbery of Logan Stankoven that kept his now 12-game goal drought alive. The Blues netminder had made 23 saves on 24 shots after two frames heading into the third.

The last 20 minutes saw the Stars try to end the game but Binnington came up huge once again for St. Louis and kept them in the game with another ten saves in the period, pushing things to overtime.

Dallas leading scorer Matt Duchene put the game to rest when blowing past two Blues players for a solo fast break on the goaltender and doesn't miss. He makes a quick move puts the puck on the opposite side past Binnington for the game winning goal.

It was a much better all around game from the Stars after their poor effort against the Predators on Thursday in their 4-1 loss. Dallas looks to build on the win when battling the Washington Capitals at home on Monday.
