Stars secure architect of recent success. Jim Nill's extension signals continued commitment to building championship contention after multiple deep playoff runs.

The Dallas Stars are keeping one of the NHL’s most successful front-office architects in place, as general manager Jim Nill has signed a two-year contract extension to remain with the organization, according to the team.

While financial terms and length of the extension have not yet been publicly disclosed, the move continues a long stretch of organizational stability under Nill, who has led Dallas since 2013 and helped transform the club into one of the league’s most consistent contenders.

Since arriving from the Detroit Red Wings front office, Nill has overseen a dramatic turnaround in Dallas, highlighted by a Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2020 and multiple deep playoff runs, including three straight Western Conference Final appearances during the current competitive window.

He also became the first executive in NHL history to win the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award three consecutive times, capturing the honour in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
