Justin and Dylan Hryckowian cement a historic leaguewide trend, stepping into an injury-depleted lineup to provide the depth scoring necessary for a deep Dallas postseason push.

On Sunday, Dallas Stars forward Justin Hryckowian was joined by his younger brother Dylan, giving Dallas its first set of brothers since captain Jamie Benn played alongside his brother Jordie from 2011 to 2017.

The pair also helped make league history as it marks seven sets of brothers playing on the same team in a single season, the most in NHL history. The Hryckowians join the likes of Jack and Luke Hughes of the New Jersey Devils, Brady and Matthew Tkachuk of the Florida Panthers, Cale and Taylor Makar of the Colorado Avalanche, Nick and Marcus Foligno of the Minnesota Wild, Arber and Florian Xhekaj of the Montreal Canadiens, and Aliaksei and Ilya Protas of the Washington Capitals.

Justin broke out with the Stars last season, entering the lineup as a young depth forward, in the bottom-six role where Dallas badly needed help, and delivered with 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points while missing just one regular season game. The college free agent signing has had a tougher start this season, with just one point through eight games, but the 25-year-old has time to bounce back.

Dylan, also a free agent signing out of the NCAA, was a standout at the AHL level, much like his brother, with eight points in as many games this season before getting the call to the big club. He had put up 60 points in 67 games the season before. It seems Stars GM Jim Nill has seen this story play out before, and with a strong AHL start from the younger Hryckowian, he made the call to complete the set.

The timing is a good one for Dallas, which could use the depth scoring Justin provided last season. The Stars are missing several forwards, with Matt Duchene, key penalty killer Radek Faksa, Sam Steel and Oskar Back all out of the lineup, and Esa Lindell is also sidelined on the back end.

Injuries are expected over the course of a season, but with Dallas hit early, the hope is that players like Hryckowian can break out in bigger roles and deliver impact performances when the Stars need crucial points the most.
