First-round pick Emil Hemming shifts to the AHL as roster battles intensify, joining a wave of prospects and veterans heading to Texas before the preseason finale.
After trimming 12 players from their training camp roster Wednesday, the Dallas Stars continued paring things down Thursday, cutting nine more names as the preseason winds toward its final stretch.
The most notable move involved top prospect Emil Hemming as the former first-round pick had drawn some hope of cracking Dallas' main roster out of camp, but he'll instead begin his first full professional season with the Texas Stars in the AHL after joining the affiliate briefly at the tail end of last season.

Joining Hemming in Texas is Dylan Hryckowian, brother of last season's breakout performer Justin Hryckowian, along with a group of returning AHL regulars in Jack Anderson, Artem Shlaine, Arno Tiefensee, Kyle Burroughs and Matthew Seminoff.
Dallas also released longtime AHL veteran Mike Sgarbossa from his professional tryout, along with college free agent Ellis Rickwood, who joined Texas late last season and will now head into his first full professional campaign with the club.
The Stars training camp roster is now down to 32 names and will see the final holdouts make their final lasting impact when closing out their preseason schedule Friday on the road against the Minnesota Wild.
