It was a memorable debut for Matt Duchene with his new team.
DALLAS - The Stars earned a 2-1 shootout victory over the Blues on Thursday night.
Dallas was minus veteran forward Roope Hintz for the season opener. He's sidelined with an upper-body injury.

First period
It was scoreless after 20 minutes.
Mason Marchment appeared to put Dallas up 1-0 with 12 seconds remaining in the period, re-directing a shot from Wyatt Johnston past Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington.
St. Louis subsequently challenged the goal, claiming the play was offside on the initial zone entry. The visitors were successful and the tally was ultimately called back.
The Stars outshot the Blues 10-6 in the frame.
Head coach Pete DeBoer's contingent successfully killed penalties to Tyler Seguin and Jason Robertson.
The contest also marked the Stars debut for Matt Duchene, who signed a one-year contract in July.
Second period
Captain Jamie Benn opened the scoring for Dallas just 18 seconds into the middle stanza after taking a feed from Ty Dellandrea along the wall below the goal line, stepping out from behind the net, and beating Bennington upstairs.
Johnston also collected an assist on the sequence.
The Blues evened things up 1-1 just 2:19 later when defenseman Tyler Tucker solved goaltender Jake Oettinger with a shot through traffic from the slot.
Joe Pavelski nearly put the Stars in front just a short time later, but was denied by a highlight-reel stop courtesy of Binnington.
Pavelski, 39, kicked off his 18th NHL season on Thursday night.
Oettinger and Binnington traded spectacular saves in the latter stages of the period to keep things 1-1 after 40 minutes.
The Stars' starter turned aside a prime scoring chance for Oskar Sundqvist on the tail end of this 2-on-1 rush.
Dallas held a 20-18 advantage in the shots department heading into the break.
Third period
Defenseman Nils Lundkvist nearly put the home team ahead with 7:34 left in regulation with a nifty maneuver that culminated in a shot attempt that hit the post.
It remained 1-1 after 60 minutes, so overtime was required.
The Stars were outshooting the Blues 31-21 heading into the extra frame.
Overtime
Johnston and Robertson both came close to ending it, but Binnington stood tall between the pipes to force a shootout.
Oettinger turned aside 23 of 24 shots overall.
Shootout
Robertson and Duchene both lit the lamp to put Dallas over the top.
The Stars will practice at Comerica Center in Frisco on Friday before departing for Palm Springs, CA where they’ll spend a few days doing some team bonding activities.
Dallas faces the Vegas Golden Knights next Tuesday at T-Mobile Arena to begin a two-game road trip that also includes a stop in Anaheim to battle the Ducks.
