Fresh off a legendary 18-year NHL career, Joe Pavelski brings his championship pedigree back to Madison to mentor the next generation of Badgers as a developmental lead.

On Thursday, it was announced by the University of Wisconsin that U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame member, two-time Olympian and 18-year NHL veteran Joe Pavelski would be officially joining their staff as the Director of Player Development.

Following his time in the USHL, Pavelski got his start with the Wisconsin Badgers, where he played just two seasons but made them count, recording 98 points in 82 games from 2004 to 2006 and helping Wisconsin win the national championship in the 2005-06 season. He made the jump to the NHL after being selected in the seventh round of the 2003 NHL Draft, going on to build a Hall-of-Fame career from there.

Pavelski retired as one of the most reliable goal scorers of his generation, finishing with 476 goals and 592 assists for 1,068 points across 1,332 games over 18 NHL seasons. Of those totals, 307 points came during his five seasons and 369 games with the Dallas Stars, where he served as a veteran presence and a key piece of the leadership group as an assistant captain.

Now back in Madison, where he's made his home in retirement, Pavelski steps into a role that lets him pass along that experience directly to the next wave of Badgers hoping to follow a similar path to the pro ranks.
