Longtime blueliner Matt Dumba hangs up his skates after 748 games, leaving a physical legacy defined by ten seasons in Minnesota and a final veteran stand in Dallas.

On Friday, longtime NHL defenseman Matt Dumba announced his retirement after 13 seasons in the league. He finishes his career with 85 goals and 176 assists for 261 points and a career plus-one rating in 748 games.

Over his career, Dumba played for the Dallas Stars, Arizona Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning and, most notably, the Minnesota Wild. He spent ten seasons in Minnesota and played two games short of 600 with the franchise.

Dumba was a valuable depth defender in Dallas during the 2024-25 season, when the Stars were contending for the Stanley Cup, appearing in 63 games and recorded ten points.

The 32-year-old Regina native was selected seventh overall in the 2012 NHL Draft. He didn’t always match the upside of a top-ten pick, but he had standout seasons, including a career-best 50 points in 2017-18 with Minnesota.
