Jim Nill Interview, Part Two: Why The Stars Are A Better Team Than They Were Last Year

The Dallas Stars are one of the NHL's top franchises, and GM Jim Nill was recognized for a job well-done by winning the 2023-24 Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award for the second consecutive season. In late July, Nill spoke to THN.com regarding the state of the Stars, the growth of hockey in Texas, and more.

In June, Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill received the Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award for the second straight season. Nill, Dallas' GM since 2013, recently took time with THN.com to discuss the state of the Stars, changes he's made to the roster, and much more. Late last week, THN.com published Part One of a six-part interview series with Nill. Today, we're moving on to Part Two:

The Hockey News: After getting to the Western Conference final in each of the past two seasons, the Stars seem like they’re in a good place. But what message would you give to Stars fans at this point in theteam’s competitive cycle? What do you want them to know about where the team is right now?

Jim Nill: I’d tell them that, you know, we’re right there – two appearances in the final four in the last two years, and we’re hungry for more than that (next) year. We’re so close, and we’re so thankful for their support. It’s a hard league to win in, but we feel like we’ve got the talent, the excellent coaching of Peter DeBoer, and the depth and the drive to do great things.

Interview With Dallas GM Nill, Part 2: Stars Better Team Than They Were Last Year

The goal in this business is to win the Stanley Cup, and it’s not easy, but we’ve got veterans like Jamie Benn, Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson, (Tyler) Seguin and (Matt) Duchene to help us get wherewe want to be. And we’ve got one of the best goaltenders out there in (Jake) Oettinger. So we’re very excited about what we’re going to be able to do this season, and our fans are going to give us terrific support the way they always do. That’s all you can ask of your fans, and they’ve responded so well for us, so we’re grateful for them and we intend on giving them good things to cheer about this year and down the road.
