With Michael Bunting added to the growing list of injuries to the Stars' forward group, Dallas recalls their top AHL scorer in Texas.
The Dallas Stars lost depth forward Michael Bunting on Sunday night during their game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Listed as questionable to return with a lower-body injury, the team’s Monday update indicated Bunting may not be able to suit up for Tuesday’s matchup against the Boston Bruins.
To fill the void, Dallas has recalled Cameron Hughes from their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars. The 29-year-old career AHLer has only two NHL games to his name but has played 456 games in the AHL. This season with Texas, Hughes has emerged as the team’s top forward and offensive threat, posting 16 goals and a AHL-leading 50 assists for 66 points in 63 games.

Selected by Boston in the sixth round of the 2015 NHL Draft, Hughes never managed to break through at the NHL level, aside from his two appearances with the Bruins. Ironically, his potential return to the NHL comes against his former team, giving him a unique opportunity to showcase his game on the big stage for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
The Stars are struggling up front, with multiple notable forwards sidelined alongside Bunting, including Sam Steel, Nathan Bastian, Radek Faksa, Roope Hintz, and Tyler Seguin. Hughes is expected to see ice time over the next game or two, giving him a chance to prove his value at the NHL level and demonstrate to other teams around the league that he can compete at the highest level.
