From commemorative rink-side tributes to significant charitable donations, the hockey community unites to remember the lives lost and support first responders on this solemn milestone anniversary.
On Friday, the world marked the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, a day that claimed nearly 3,000 lives and remains one of the most consequential moments in American history. Given the significance of the milestone, teams across the NHL, along with the league itself, shared tributes honoring those lost.
The Dallas Stars posted to social media a photo of American Airlines Center with the American flag displayed across the ice, captioned "Never Forget." The post included a message reading, "25 years later, we remember the lives lost, honor the heroes, and stand with those whose lives were forever changed. We will never forget."

The NHL also announced it had made donations to four organizations connected to September 11th: the FDNY Foundation, the New York City Police Foundation, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, and 9/11 Day. In a statement, the league said the donations were made "to honor those we lost and assist active and retired first responders and their families."
Among the nearly 3,000 victims were many with ties to Texas, a reminder that the attacks' reach extended well beyond New York, Washington and Shanksville, Pennsylvania, touching families and communities across the world.
Twenty-five years later, their memory, along with that of everyone lost that day, continues to be honored across the country, from national commemorations in New York and Washington to gestures like those made across professional sports on Friday.
