Scott White just can't seem to stay out of the GM search headlines this summer, and that's a good thing for Stars fans who've been waiting to see the longtime assistant general manager finally get his shot at running his own team.
White, who has spent nearly two decades building his career within the Dallas organization, has already been connected to three separate GM openings this offseason in the Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Nashville Predators, coming up short in each search despite reportedly being viewed as a serious candidate along the way, at one point emerging as the favorite in Toronto's search before that job ultimately went to John Chyka.
Speaking on The Sheet podcast, insider Jeff Marek suggested that he expects White to now be in the running for the Detroit Red Wings' opening, as the organization works through its own front office overhaul following a series of changes atop the club.

White has been with the Stars organization for the last two decades, starting on the coaching staff at Michigan Tech from 1994 to 1999 before making the jump to the ECHL as a head coach and eventually pivoting into management.
He joined the Dallas organization back in 2005-06 with what was then the Iowa Stars, and stuck with the franchise through its evolution, being promoted to director of hockey operations in 2013-14 before taking on the assistant general manager role ahead of the 2016-17 season, a job he's now held for nearly a decade.
It's fair to say the near-misses this summer have stung for a guy who's put in that much time in one building. But the consensus is that White will eventually get his chance and it could come with Detroit. After four separate teams have come calling in one offseason, it's becoming harder to imagine White staying in Dallas as merely an assistant much longer.
