The Dallas Stars continued making roster cuts in their 2024-25 training camp, returning a slew of players to their junior hockey teams and American League affiliate Monday, as well as releasing other players from their pro and amateur tryout agreements.
In the Stars' announcement Monday afternoon, 13 players were loaned to the AHL's Texas Stars. They include forwards Francesco Arcuri, Justin Ertel, Justin Hryckowian, Kyle McDonald, Matthew Seminoff, Antonio Stranges and Chase Wheatcroft, defensemen Luke Krys, Christian Kyrou, Connor Punnett and Gavin White, and goalies Ben Kraws and Remi Poirier.
Meanwhile, the Stars released forward Anthony Romano and D-man Kyle Looft from their amateur tryout deals, and they also released forwards Jack Becker and Curtis McKenzie, defensemn Michael Karow and goalie Bryan Thomson from their professional tryouts.
There weren't any surprises in the latest round of cuts, which followed last Tuesday's loaning of recent draft picks Tristan Bertucci and Emil Hemming to their major junior team, the OHL's Barrie Colts. And Dallas' training camp roster is down to 31 players after Monday's cuts.
That leaves another eight players to be removed from the NHL roster, but those cuts may not come until close to the Stars' first regular-season game, which takes place Oct. 10 against the host Nashville Predators.
The Stars have very few open positions to batte for, and while youngsters including defenseman Lian Bichsel are making a solid case to be kept around, the numbers game doesn't leave much room at all for anyone to be a surprise addition to begin the season. This is a strong, deep Dallas roster, and it's going to be quite the feat if any youngster breaks through and makes the NHL club.
