Miro Heiskanen ignited a relentless offensive surge as Jake Oettinger secured a dominant shutout, silencing San Jose and proving the Dallas system finally clicked into high gear.
The Dallas Stars are still looking for their first win as they take on the San Jose Sharks, who are on a two-game win streak. At morning skate, head coach Glen Gulutzan stated the Stars have not played good hockey and that he believed it was an execution issue, not a system issue. At warm-ups, it was announced that Sharks captain, Macklin Celebrini would be out due to a lower-body injury and Ty Dellandrea would slot in.

In the first period, the Stars looked to be executing the system much more than the first two games. They were able to hold the Sharks to just two shots on goal and put up 11 of their own. They had one attempt at a power-play and created a lot of chances, but were not able to get one by Yaroslav Askarov. The Stars continued to apply pressure and were finally rewarded for it with just 69 seconds left. Miro Heiskanen found a loose puck near the corner and was able to Bank it in off of Dmitry Orlov. That was Heiskanen's second goal of the season, which also happened to be just the second goal scored by the Stars through the first two games.
The seal finally broke for the Stars during the second period and they did not let up. The second goal was from Joel Kiviranta who also banked it off a Sharks player to go in, this time Yaroslav Askarov was the victim. Almost exactly three minutes later, Jamie Benn scores from the doorstep. But the Stars weren't done there, Jason Robertson found himself alone in the slot and he does not miss those. The second period ended with the Stars leading 4-0 and the shots on goal tilted in the Stars favor 20-7.
The game seemed to open up in the third frame, with a lot more back and forth, as well as the Sharks pushing back to break Jake Oettinger's shut out bid. Will Smith did hit a post early in the third period, which was one of their most dangerous chances of the game. The Stars had some left in the tank with Mikko Rantanen getting this first goal of the season and making the score 5-0. Oettinger would get his first shut-out of the season and 17th of his career.
