Oettinger finished tied for eighth place, receiving exactly one third place vote. He tied with Sam Montembault of the Montreal Canadiens and Dustin Wolf of the Calgary Flames.

Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets was the runaway winner, with Tampa Bay's Andrei Vasilevskiy finishing second and Kings Darcy Kuemper third.

Oettinger was 36-18-4 in the regular season with a 2.59 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. Through 18 playoff games, Oettinger had nine wins and a 2.82 GAA and .905 save percentage. The Stars and Oettinger defeated Vezina Trophy winner Hellebuyck in the second round, beating Winnipeg 4-2 in the series.

Oettinger was pulled after only two shots in the final Stars playoff game, a controversial decision that likely contributed to Pete DeBoer getting fired as the Stars coach.
