At 35, Duchene defies age with a scoring surge, dazzling with clutch goals and propelling the Stars toward a Cup run.

Veteran forward Matt Duchene is proving at 35 years old that he remains one of the NHL’s elite players. After a slow start to the season due to injuries and a late return to action, Duchene is finally hitting his stride, highlighted by a showstopping goal Thursday night in the Dallas Stars’ 7-2 rout of the Edmonton Oilers.

The Haliburton, Ontario native has been on a tear over his last 14 games, recording nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. That production ranks him eighth in the league during that stretch, placing him ahead of notable players like Hart Trophy candidate Macklin Celebrini as well as elite names like Martin Necas, Quinn Hughes, and Tage Thompson.

Duchene’s consistency is fueling quiet but growing Hall of Fame consideration. Over 1,178 career games, he has amassed 384 goals and 539 assists for 923 points. With his current pace, Duchene could surpass the 1,000-point milestone as early as next season and potentially reach 1,100 points by the end of his contract with Dallas through 2028-29. Achieving that mark would place him among only 71 players in NHL history to reach 1,100 points.

Beyond the milestones, Duchene continues to make history with highlight-reel plays and game-changing performances, proving that age has not diminished his skill or impact. With his hot streak and leadership, he could play a pivotal role in the Stars’ pursuit of a Stanley Cup this season, further cementing his legacy in the league.
