Dallas cuts ties with Brandon Halverson as roster deadlines loom, sending the former Rangers prospect to the wire after securing the veteran netminder for organizational depth.
On Tuesday, the Dallas Stars placed goaltender Brandon Halverson on waivers, as they trim the main roster ahead of the regular season. The standout AHL goaltender was brought in as organizational depth in net.
Dallas signed Halverson to a one-year, two-way contract worth $850,000 on July 1st as part of a trio of moves that also brought in forwards Arttu Hyry and Artem Shlaine. Halverson joined the Stars organization after spending the previous three years in the Tampa Bay Lightning system, where he appeared in just three games and struggled, securing an 0-1-0 record with a 4.22 goals-against average and an .810 save percentage.

Two rounds before the Rangers drafted superstar goaltender Igor Shesterkin, New York drafted Halverson in the second round with the 59th overall pick. He would go on to make just one appearance in relief for the Rangers, a 6-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators back on February 17, 2018, before New York let him walk as a free agent in 2019.
He spent the following years bouncing around the minor leagues, mainly filling the role of a depth goaltender. With the Lightning, the 30-year-old Traverse City, Michigan native would go on to find his footing in the AHL, posting a 12-7-7 record with a .918 save percentage, a 2.20 goals-against average and four shutouts in 26 AHL games with Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. He has since developed into a solid depth goaltender and will look to do the same with AHL Texas.
