Professional Hockey Writers Association members recognized Dallas’ communications team for fostering elite media access and transparency, cementing their reputation as the gold standard for PR excellence in the NHL.
The Dallas Stars organization is just that, an organization, with every department needing to be firing on all cylinders for the best possible outcome. For the second time in three seasons, the Stars' public relations staff is being recognized for its excellence around the league.
The Professional Hockey Writers Association announced Wednesday that Dallas and the Colorado Avalanche are this season's Western Conference recipients of the Dick Dillman Award, presented annually to honor the top public relations staffs in the NHL. The New York Islanders were named the Eastern Conference winner.
The Stars' staff includes Senior Director of Communications Joe Calvillo, Senior Manager of Communications Lindsey Brown, Communications Coordinator Monique Nagel and Communications Assistant Patrick Carbone, all of whom were credited for their work in making Dallas one of the best-represented organizations not just in the NHL, but in professional sports.

With Dallas often regarded as one of the league's smaller, lesser-known hockey markets, the efforts of the team's communications staff shouldn't be overlooked.
Their continued recognition speaks to the work being done behind the scenes to make the Stars one of the more accessible and well-covered organizations in North American sports, providing reporters with the access needed to tell the team's stories while helping build the kind of trust between players, media and fans that doesn't happen by accident.
The Dillman Award is presented in honor of the late Dick Dillman, the longtime Minnesota North Stars public relations executive, and is voted on annually by a panel of senior PHWA members. Dallas' latest win adds to a growing history with the honor, one the organization has now claimed for the fourth time since the award's inception during the 2005-06 season, setting the standard among Western Conference teams.
