The men’s ice hockey tournament at the Winter Olympics has delivered a wide spectrum of results, from lopsided blowouts to edge of your seat thrillers.
On one end, powerhouse Canada flexed its offensive muscle in a commanding 10–2 victory over France, showcasing the depth and firepower that has long made the Canadians a gold medal favorite.
On the other, fans were treated to a dramatic showdown Sunday as Switzerland edged Czechia 4–3 in overtime in one of the tournament’s most entertaining contests to date.
For Czechia, the depth forward for the Dallas Stars has steadily improved his play with each outing as performance against France was particularly notable, as he recorded a pair of assists in just under 14 minutes of ice time while playing an efficient two way game.
Heading into the final round robin matchup against Switzerland, Czech fans hoped Faksa might break through with his first goal of the tournament or provide another timely contribution. Instead, it was a quiet night for the 32-year-old, and not for the reasons anyone hoped.
Late in the game, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on his podcast 32 Thoughts, that Faksa was dealing with an injury. The nature of the ailment has not been disclosed, but it clearly affected his usage. Faksa finished with just 8:51 of ice time.

Any prolonged absence would be a major setback for Czechia as they prepare for a qualification round matchup against Denmark on Tuesday. Losing one of their NHLers would thin out a lineup that relies heavily on structure and depth.
Through three Olympic games, Faksa has totaled two assists, a pace that compares favorably to his role in Dallas this season. With the Stars, he typically operates in a middle to bottom six role and has produced 17 points in 56 games while averaging 11:41 of ice time per contest.
For now, there is cautious optimism as Faksa has not been officially ruled out, and Friedman’s report remains the only update regarding his status. Czechia’s practice Tuesday should offer the first indication of whether he will be available for the crucial clash against Denmark.
