Tapping Trey Taylor for his NHL debut, Dallas pivots to the physical blueliner to bolster a depleted defense as they prepare for a showdown with Montreal.

On Thursday, the Dallas Stars recalled AHL defenseman Trey Taylor ahead of their clash with the Montreal Canadiens.

The move comes after depth defenseman Kyle Capobianco went down with an injury and forward Dylan Hryckowian was sent down to the AHL to clear roster space. Some had expected former second-round pick Tristan Bertucci to get the call and finally earn some NHL minutes, but the Stars went in another direction.

The six-foot-two, 24-year-old Taylor is in his second full professional season after signing with the Stars organization following three years at Clarkson University in the NCAA. He developed into a productive defender in college, going from eight points in his freshman year to 29 points in 39 games in his junior and final season.

In his first full pro season with Texas, Taylor was pretty solid, recording eight goals and 18 assists for 26 points in 70 games. This season he has yet to score but has three assists in eight games.

Taylor will now get the chance to make his NHL debut Thursday, when Dallas hosts a tough Canadiens team that is coming off an apperance in the Eastern Conference Finals.
