Miro Heiskanen’s rapid opening strike vanished under a barrage of Nashville power plays as Juuse Saros slammed the door, leaving Dallas searching for answers after a frustrating collapse.

It didn't take long for the Stars to get their first goal of the season Saturday night, but Dallas could not find the back of the net for the rest of the game in an underwhelming 2-1 loss to the Nashville Predators.

Fresh off of a 4-0 shutout in their home opener Friday, the Stars faced a rested Preds team who had also lost their home opener to a Central Division opponent, a 3-1 loss to Minnesota Thursday. Both teams had something to prove in their second game, and it showed in the first period.

Dallas scored right off the jump, with Miro Heiskanen burying the first Stars goal of the year in the first minute of the game. Bodies crowded the net and in the chaos, Heiskanen pulled the puck back and fired it past Juuse Saros. It ended up being the only shot Saros let past him, making 29 saves after that.

Special teams undermined the lead that the Stars had built, with Nashville cashing in on two power play goals in the first period. Steven Stamkos, who seems to love playing and scoring against the Stars, scored the first from his usual spot on the ice during power plays. Then a back-breaking goal from Nils Hoglander, an offseason acquisition from Vancouver, scored the Preds second goal with only three seconds left in a Jason Robertson penalty.

Both teams gave it their all in the first period, but neither team could get the puck past the goaltenders after that. Casey DeSmith made 24 saves for Dallas and kept them in the game all night.

Now, the Stars have to regroup and head back home looking for a win, and more importantly, some more goal scoring. For a team that has essentially the same roster as last season, this is an inauspicious start.

It won't be an easy task as the high-flying San Jose Sharks loaded with young talent come to town Monday having scored nine goals in two overtime wins so far this season.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. local time in Dallas.
