Dallas lands offensive defenseman Jeremie Poirier from Calgary, boosting their blue line with his puck-moving and scoring prowess.

The Dallas Stars have made a minor league trade on the blue line, acquiring defenseman Jeremie Poirier from the Calgary Flames in exchange for fellow defenseman Gavin White.

Poirier, 23, was originally selected by Calgary with the 72nd overall pick in the third round of the 2020 NHL Draft. While he signed with the Flames, the offensively inclined defenseman never appeared in an NHL game. Instead, Poirier spent four seasons with the organization’s AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, where he developed a reputation as a productive puck-moving defenseman.

Over 198 AHL games, Poirier recorded 18 goals and 84 assists for 102 points, eye-opening offensive totals for a defenseman at the minor league level. His overall impact has been somewhat tempered by a career minus-33 rating, but his ability to generate offense from the back end remains his calling card.

Dallas sends White, also 23, to Calgary in the deal. White was selected by the Stars in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Draft and, like Poirier, signed an entry-level contract without making his NHL debut. He spent the past three professional seasons with the AHL’s Texas Stars, appearing in 118 games and totaling five goals and 22 assists for 27 points.
