Despite a game-winning preseason goal, Jack Becker headlines a wave of roster cuts as Dallas narrows its squad, sending several promising prospects back to the AHL affiliates.
The Dallas Stars announced nine roster cuts Wednesday morning as training camp continues to take shape, with several of the moves coming as something of a surprise.
The most notable name among the group was Jack Becker, who was a standout for the AHL's Texas Stars last season, posting 40 points in 71 games. Becker also made an immediate impression in his lone preseason appearance, scoring the eventual game-winning goal in Dallas' preseason opener Sunday against the St. Louis Blues.
Despite that showing, Becker was released from his professional tryout, though he remains eligible to return to Texas for a third season with the organization.

Also among the moves was defenseman Aram Minnetian, who was placed on waivers after joining the AHL club late last season and closing strong with three points in eight games from the blue line.
Minnetian, a former fourth-round pick in 2023, is expected to head back to Texas for his first full professional season as he continues working to live up to his draft pedigree.
Dallas also placed forwards Justin Ertel, Christian Fitzgerald, Ayrton Martino and Charlie Paquette on waivers, along with defenseman Connor Punnett.
Rounding out the cuts, Benjamin Gleason and Kyle Looft were both released from their professional tryouts alongside Becker. Going back to their respective junior clubs are Ryan Brown, Mikhail Cherepanov, Brandon Gorzynski and Jakub Vaněček.
The moves bring Dallas' training camp roster down to 39 players. The Stars will continue their preseason schedule with another home-and-home series, this time against the Minnesota Wild, beginning Wednesday before the second leg on the road Friday.
