Oettinger's stellar play fuels the Stars' surge, but elevating his game against top contenders is crucial for their Stanley Cup aspirations.

The Dallas Stars are riding one of the NHL’s hottest streaks, and their starting goaltender Jake Oettinger has been one of the key reasons why.

Heading into the Olympic break, Oettinger was already among the league’s most in-form goaltenders, and he has carried that momentum forward. Dallas enters the stretch run with a remarkable 12-0-1 record over its last 13 games, a run that has solidified the team’s position as a serious contender.

During that span, the 27-year-old Minnesota native has posted a 9-0-1 record in his last ten starts. His goals-against average sits at a respectable 2.55 over the streak, though his .886 save percentage suggests there is still room for improvement despite the victories.

Oettinger’s only loss in that stretch came against the Colorado Avalanche, while his last regulation defeat dates back to January 18 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

On the season, Oettinger owns a 26-10-5 record with a 2.65 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage. However, the breakdown of his losses reveals a trend that could become significant as the postseason approaches.

Ten of his 15 losses this season have come against high-level opponents, including the Utah Mammoth, Carolina Hurricanes, Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild, New York Islanders, Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, as well as the Avalanche and Lightning. While Dallas has benefited from Oettinger’s steady play, the Stars will likely need their goaltender to elevate his performance against these elite teams if they hope to make a deep playoff run.

Among Oettinger’s strongest wins this season are victories over top teams such as the Mammoth, Hurricanes, Avalanche and Wild. Still, consistency against the league’s best remains the next step.

With the playoffs approaching and what many believe could be one of the final championship windows for the Stars’ current core, the pressure is mounting. If Dallas hopes to turn its recent hot streak into a legitimate Stanley Cup push, it will need Oettinger playing at his very best when it matters most.
