The Dallas Stars head into the Olympic break playing some of their best hockey of the season, riding a six-game winning streak while also seeing positive developments on the injury front.
Dallas will enter the pause in play hopeful that no additional players are sidelined during the break, and there is growing optimism that reinforcements could be on the way once NHL action resumes. One of the most encouraging signs surrounds defense prospect Lian Bichsel.
Bichsel has been skating with the Stars over the past several days and made an appearance at morning skate on Wednesday, though he did not suit up for Wednesday night’s game against the St. Louis Blues. Still, his return appears to be nearing.
Dallas Reporter Brien Rea reported Wednesday that Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan described Bichsel as “very, very close” to returning following the Olympic break, signaling that the young defenseman could be back in the lineup in the near future.

The six-foot-seven, 21-year-old blueliner has been sidelined since late November with a lower-body injury. While Bichsel is not known for his offensive production, he has quietly provided steady minutes when healthy. He has recorded one goal and two assists for three points this season, but his value lies primarily in his defensive reliability.
With momentum on their side and key players trending toward better health, the Stars appear well positioned heading into the Olympic break, with Bichsel’s potential return offering another boost to an already rolling club.
