High-volume shooting has yet to yield goals for Dallas’ top playmakers, leaving fans wondering when the breakout performance will finally ignite the team’s star-studded offensive core.

Following the Dallas Stars' bounce-back 5-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Monday, many of the team's forwards had their first big nights and recorded their first points of the season.

That wasn't the case for everyone, however, as some key members of the Stars' forward group have been limited early, with Wyatt Johnston standing out. The 23-year-old is coming off a historic 86-point campaign and entered the season with plenty of hype, with some expecting him to take another step forward and become a potential top-20 player in the NHL.

The start to the season has been quiet, though, as Johnston has recorded just an assist and no goals. There are reasons to believe the points will come, however, as he is tied for the team lead in shots on goal with nine and is still playing a heavy role in the offense, averaging over 20 minutes of ice time, the second-most among Stars forwards.

The player he is tied with for the team lead in shots is Tyler Seguin, who is coming off several injury-shortened seasons and was hoping to bounce back in a major way as a pending free agent. That hasn't worked out just yet. The 34-year-old remains without a point, has taken three minor penalties and is a minus-two on the season.

Seguin is also starting the year in a relatively smaller role, playing just shy of 15 minutes a night. Once he is feeling fully healthy, he should be able to turn things around, and his nine shots on goal suggest he will eventually find the back of the net.
