From The Silky Mitten State: What went wrong in the Red Wings' loss to the Maple Leafs in Sweden, and how did it spur positive change?
As David Perron noted in the Detroit Red Wings' post-game media availability Sunday after beating the Minnesota Wild, the mood around an NHL team can swing quickly. "It feels better than a week ago; it can change in another week," Perron said. "So it's up to us to keep finding ways to get points."
For the Red Wings, that is obvious in the sullen aura around the team following two disappointing losses in Sweden (first in overtime to the Ottawa Senators, then having blown a 2-0 third-period lead to the Toronto Maple Leafs), which evaporated when Detroit returned to action last Wednesday with a 4-0 shutout win over the New Jersey Devils and was replaced by glad tidings when wins over the Boston Bruins and Wild threw the team in the midst of a three-game win streak.
The above video is an excerpt from a conversation on THN Detroit's podcast, The Silky Mitten State. In it, my co-host Connor Earegood and I discuss the disappointment of that loss to Toronto, while also teasing at a few kernels of positivity to be gleaned from it.
If nothing else, it re-affirms Perron's point about just how quickly a team's collective feelings can swing in the modern NHL.
