The Red Wings Flash Playoff Potential & a UM-MSU Review: The Silky Mitten State Episode 12The Red Wings Flash Playoff Potential & a UM-MSU Review: The Silky Mitten State Episode 12

The latest episode of THN Detroit's hit podcast The Silky Mitten State is live!

On this week's episode, my co-host Connor Earegood and I discuss a generally successful week of Red Wings' hockey before wading into last weekend's series between Michigan and Michigan State in the NCAA ranks.

With the Red Wings, we discuss the way wins over Tampa and Philadelphia offered a preview as to the style of play Detroit will need to become a playoff team, then find some measure of success once they get there.  We weighed those results against a Dallas loss that showed the way some of the Red Wings' defensive woes haven't totally evaporated in the new year.

From there, we chatted about Ville Husso's impending return from injury, sharing our thoughts on the goaltender rotation with Husso potentially back healthy soon.  Then, we chatted about Daniel Sprong's status as a bottom six sniper and whether he's earned more minutes than he's gotten.

Finally, we chat about the UM-MSU series, including what we learned about each team, a deceptively strong weekend from Trey Augustine, and what the path forward is for Michigan through a season of familiar inconsistencies.

For a sample of our discussion, check out this clip on the Red Wings' tendency toward peaks and valleys:
