The Detroit Red Wings picked up a valuable point in the standings following their third period comeback effort against the Kraken on Tuesday evening.
The Detroit Red Wings displayed plenty of resiliency Tuesday evening in the Pacific Northwest against the Seattle Kraken, mounting a third-period comeback after falling behind by three goals.
Although they ultimately fell short in a 4-3 shootout loss, they can hang their hats on the fact that they never gave up.
Frederick Gaudreau and Bobby McMann scored shootout goals for the Kraken, who completed the season sweep over Detroit after enjoying a 6-3 win at Little Caesars Arena earlier in the month.
Seattle enjoyed a 3-0 lead and a 22-11 shots advantage by the time the third period started, only to see Detroit get goals from Viktor Arvidsson, Lucas Raymond, and Alex DeBrincat, knotting the score.
As head coach Todd McLellan put it, the club recovered from a poor start but was ultimately undone by it.
"We put ourselves in a situation where we got frustrated, and that was taking a lot of energy out of our game," McLellan said. "We weren't connected, and we were upset, for lack of a better term, with our play.
We talked about it between the second and third, and we got a goal, and that broke the ice for us, and we started coming back in. We have been a pretty resilient group, but we fall short, probably because of our start."

DeBrincat, who became the fourth Michigan-born NHL player to reach 300 goals scored, credited the comeback effort to gain the valuable point the standings.
"Huge to battle back, and huge to get that point," DeBrincat said. "Probably would have liked a little more energy in the first two periods, but, good for us for not giving up and getting the point. Obviously, we would have liked two, but it's a big point for us."
The Red Wings will continue their four-game road trip with a stop in Vancouver to battle the Canucks on Thursday evening.
