Viktor Arvidsson debuts while top prospects Nate Danielson and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard return to the lineup as Detroit hunts for its first preseason victory in Pittsburgh tonight.
On Tuesday, the Detroit Red Wings will look to bounce back quickly after dropping their preseason opener in a narrow 1-0 defeat, traveling to Pittsburgh the very next day to face the Penguins in the second of four preseason games.
Detroit leaned heavily on AHL talent and prospects in Monday's game against the Blue Jackets, and Tuesday's lineup figures to follow a similar pattern while mixing in more NHL regulars. Noah Dower Nilsson, Jesse Kiiskinen and Trey Augustine will make their first preseason appearances, while Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, Nate Danielson and Axel Sandin-Pellikka are among those surprisingly returning for a second straight game.
Several NHL regulars will also see their first preseason action, including last year's preseason breakout performer Emmitt Finnie, along with Mason Appleton, Marco Kasper, Ben Chiarot, Justin Faulk, Albert Johansson and John Gibson.
In goal, Daniil Tarasov and Michal Postava were both sharp in the opener, helping Detroit hold the Blue Jackets off the board through regulation and overtime before the game was decided in a shootout. This time, Gibson and Augustine will get the call between the pipes as the Red Wings look to pick up their first win of the preseason against Pittsburgh.
