Two desperate teams meet in Detroit as Dylan Larkin looks to ignite the Red Wings' offense and extend a high-scoring historical trend against the struggling Devils.
On Tuesday, the Detroit Red Wings will be desperate to rebound from a slow start to the season, having won just one of their first five games. They will try to do it at home against another struggling team, the New Jersey Devils, who have dropped three of their last four.
The pattern in this matchup is surprisingly consistent with the two clubs trading wins in each of their last nine meetings, so a Detroit victory Tuesday would keep the trend alive. In six of those nine games, the teams combined for seven or more goals, which could point to another high-scoring affair.
Dylan Larkin, the Red Wings’ elite two-way center, will need to step up. He brings an excellent track record against New Jersey into the game, with points in 11 of his last 13 meetings with the Devils.
Over 27 career games against them, he has 15 goals and 16 assists for 31 points, including seven multi-point performances. He could use a bounce-back night, as his only points of the season so far came in his season debut.
