Red Wings veteran David Perron, who previously suggested he had eyes only for the Red Wings, signs with division rival Senators
As the free agency period began, it looked as though veteran Red Wing forward David Perron may be out the door.
TSN's Bob McKenzie reported as much, suggesting this morning that Perron was set to test the free agent marketplace after failing to come to an agreement with Detroit on an extension. At the conclusion of the regular season, Perron expressed optimism that he might continue on as a Red Wing. “There’s no reason at this point to think about anywhere else or anything else,” He said at his end-of-season interview in the spring. “I hope it works out.”

Evidently, the time has come where Perron—whether by his own choice or by that of Detroit GM Steve Yzerman—had to consider alternatives, and now he's found one, agreeing to a two-year contract with the Senators reported to be valued at $8 million.
Perron just completed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the Red Wings, scoring 17 goals and 30 assists in 76 games this year. Now, Perron's miraculous late equalizer in the team's season finale in Montreal will be his last act as a Red Wing.
