Jesse Compher joins PWHL Detroit, uniting with brother J.T. to create a landmark family legacy while the Red Wings forward fights to reclaim his offensive form next season.

Detroit is on the verge of a rare and historic moment as J.T. and Jesse Compher are set to become the first NHL and PWHL sibling pair to play in the same city, after Jesse signed with PWHL Detroit following three seasons with the Toronto Sceptres.

Jesse, 26, arrives in Detroit as a proven commodity, bringing meaningful experience to a PWHL Detroit roster looking to add credible talent. Over three seasons in Toronto she posted 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points in 84 regular season games, and showed she can elevate her game when it matters most, recording four points in nine playoff games across two separate postseason runs with the Sceptres.

At just 26, she is entering what should be the prime years of her career and figures to be a quality addition for Detroit. The reunion with her brother J.T., however, comes at a complicated time on his end.

The Red Wings forward is coming off the worst statistical season of his career, managing just 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points across a full 82-game schedule. It is a significant drop from the production Detroit had in mind when they brought him aboard in 2023, having envisioned a player capable of contributing closer to the 50-point range.

Whether J.T. can find his footing again next season remains one of the more pressing questions surrounding the Red Wings heading into the offseason, but regardless of how that plays out, the Compher family will have a presence on both sides of Detroit's hockey landscape next year.
