Detroit Red Wings have acquired star goaltender John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks for Petr Mrzaek, draft picks
The Detroit Red Wings are adding star goaltender John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for goaltender Petr Mrazek along with a 2027 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-round pick, according to multiple reports.
The Red Wings get their steady goaltender of the near future with Gibson. The 31-year-old is coming off a resurgent 2024–25 season appearing in 29 games and finishing with an 11–11–2 record with a save percentage at .912 that placed him tied for seventh among all NHL goaltenders. His goals-against average was also decent at 2.77 and should signal a new starting goaltender for the Red Wings for years to come.
GM Steve Yzerman spoke on the trade, saying that it took "no convincing" to get Gibson to agree to the deal and that he was eager to get a fresh start and he'll get one with Detroit.
"John was looking for a fresh start, and saw an opportunity in Detroit to get into that and play a lot of games," Yzerman told ESPN "I look forward to speaking with them, and I've been assured he's excited to come to Detroit, and we're excited to have him."
