Following a turbulent offseason and training camp injury, the former captain returns to spark a struggling offense and begin his redemption arc on Detroit’s top line.

After practicing in full on Tuesday, Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin appears set to make his season debut against the Ottawa Senators.

The 30-year-old Michigan native missed the start of the season after suffering an upper-body injury during training camp, and he will look to make the most of the lost time by helping a Red Wings lineup that has scored just two goals through its first two games.

It was a turbulent offseason for Larkin, who requested a trade after spending 12 seasons with the organization and making only one playoff appearance. Despite coming off a career-best scoring season in which he posted 34 goals and 33 assists for 67 points, Larkin was not moved, as the Red Wings were unable to find a suitable return for their longtime center.

Since then, Larkin has been stripped of the captaincy and enters the new season in an unfamiliar position. He has described himself as being at the bottom of the totem pole and has said he will need to work his way back with his teammates.

The hope in Detroit is that Larkin can prove it with his actions on the ice. While he has not had the best career numbers against Ottawa, he has been far better in this matchup of late, recording six goals and two assists for eight points over his last seven games against the Senators.

Larkin is eager to make an impact right away and will give the Red Wings an exciting new look on the top line. He is expected to slot in with his usual linemate, Lucas Raymond, as well as newcomer Viktor Arvidsson, a trio that Detroit hopes can provide the jolt its struggling offense has been missing.
