Forward Dylan Larkin, who was officially suspended by the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, stands to lose an eye-opening amount of money each day.

Forward Dylan Larkin decided that he's "had enough" of the ongoing trade stalemate with the Detroit Red Wings, informing them through his agent, Pat Brisson, that he no longer wants to play for the club and won't be reporting to the rink.

In response, the Red Wings announced that Larkin has been suspended without pay, which will carry on until a resolution is found.

Because Larkin is suspended without pay, he stands to lose an eye-opening amount of money with each passing day.

His salary cap hit is $8.7 million, meaning that he'll forfeit over $41,000 per day for as long as this saga continues.

In fact, as of the writing of this piece, Larkin has now lost $48,500, a figure that is quickly approaching Michigan’s median annual household income of roughly between $72,000 and $77,000.

On Thursday before the Red Wings took on the Chicago Blackhawks, interim general manager Shawn Horcoff explained the situation in no uncertain terms.

"To put it simply, we received a call from Dylan's agent today saying that he wasn't going to be coming to the rink, and no longer wanted to be part of the Red Wings," Horcoff said.

Horcoff continued by saying that Larkin's refusal to report to the rink is a strong statement in itself.

"I'll say at this point is Dylan no longer wants to be Red Wing, and he's not with us," Horcoff said. "I mean, that pretty much you know is a strong statement.

It's pretty cut and dry."

Unlike unsigned RFA defenseman Simon Edvinsson, there is no deadline for this situation to be resolved, and it could very well drag on over the next several weeks or even months before the Red Wings receive what they feel is an adequate return for their now-former No. 1 center.
