New photos show that not only has the ice been installed at Little Caesars Arena for the upcoming 2026-27 NHL season, but that a familiar logo is returning to center ice.
One of the defining features of Joe Louis Arena, the former home of the Detroit Red Wings, was the iconic “Hockeytown” logo at center ice.
That tradition carried over to the team’s first season at Little Caesars Arena before the logo was replaced by the Red Wings’ standard emblem the following year.
However, “Hockeytown” returned to center ice for the first time since 2018 during the Red Wings’ centennial season last year, placed familiarly over the specialized centennial logo.
While Detroit is bringing its traditional logo back to center ice now that the centennial campaign is over, the “Hockeytown” moniker isn’t going anywhere.
Recent photos show that the classic "Hockeytown" logo that adorned center ice at Joe Louis Arena for two decades is back in place.
The logo, which made its debut in time for the 1996-97 season, remained in place through Detroit's final campaign in the historic venue, which closed for NHL hockey in the spring of 2017.

Before last season began, Red Wings fans had the opportunity to vote on which logo they wanted at center ice for the team’s centennial campaign.
The choices were the specialized centennial logo on its own or the logo featuring the “Hockeytown” moniker, with fans ultimately choosing the latter.
