The legendary forward brings veteran leadership and championship pedigree to the Motor City, reuniting with Manon Rhéaume to anchor a budding roster through the 2028-29 season.

On Thursday, PWHL Detroit announced that veteran forward Hilary Knight has signed a two-year extension to remain with Detroit through the 2028-29 season after being acquired via sign-and-trade from PWHL Las Vegas in exchange for Detroit's first-round pick.

Knight, 36, comes to the Motor City after serving as captain of the Seattle Torrent, where she posted five goals and nine assists for 14 points in 22 games this past season. Over the course of her PWHL career, the Sun Valley, Idaho native has accumulated 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points in 76 games.

The excitement appears to be mutual as Knight made clear in a statement released by the team that Detroit was exactly the destination she was looking for.

"I can't wait to get to Detroit and start helping build the team's foundation over the next three years," Knight said. "I'm looking forward to helping grow the game and contributing to the incredible energy surrounding women's sports in Detroit."

Knight also spoke to her belief in the organization's direction, specifically citing the influence of Detroit general manager Manon Rhéaume and the vision she has brought to the franchise as a driving factor in her decision.

On the ice, Knight joins a forward group that already includes Hannah Bilka, Jesse Compher, Britta Curl-Salemme, Shiann Darkangelo, Taylor Girard, Olivia Wallin and Daryl Watts. The defensive corps features Sydney Bard, Cayla Barnes, Mia Biotti, Mellissa Channell-Watkins, Nina Jobst-Smith and Stephanie Markowski, with Alice Philbert minding the net.

With Knight now in the fold, Detroit has added the kind of veteran leadership and big-game experience that young rosters need as they chase championship ambitions.
