According to NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun, Detroit Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff recently met face-to-face with unsigned RFA defenseman Simon Edvinsson and his representation.

One of the major storylines surrounding the Detroit Red Wings that has yet to be resolved is a contract for restricted free agent defenseman Simon Edvinsson.

Edvinsson, who completed his entry-level contract, reported to Training Camp last month despite not having a contract in place and, despite skating in drills with his teammates, remained unsigned and eventually returned to his native Sweden.

The towering defenseman, who had emerged as Detroit's second most valuable blue liner behind Moritz Seider, has returned to North America to work with a trainer.

Meanwhile, according to a new report from NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun, Edvinsson recently met in person with Red Wings interim general manager Shawn Horcoff.

"Yeah, where I would say there's news is that I can confirm that Edvinsson and his agent, J.P. Barry, met face-to-face with Red Wings GM Shawn Horcoff over the weekend - you know, sort of all laying their cards on the table," LeBrun said during a recent airing of Insider Trading on TSN.

According to LeBrun, it doesn't appear as though any resolution on a new contract was made, while there also doesn't appear to be any formal trade request on the part of Edvinsson.

"I don't sense that, obviously, there was any resolution to come out of it, but those types of meetings are important when something like this drags out," he continued. "And certainly, I think that the player probably still views, given how long this has dragged out, that a trade is probably the best scenario for him. But I would stop short of saying there was a formal trade request."

Earlier this month, Horcoff confirmed that he had "zero" interest in trading Edvinsson.

"I have zero interest in trading Simon Edvinsson and I want to keep him at home, nothing's changed on my part," Horcoff said on Oct. 14. "I think Simon is someone that's very hard to come by. We've spent a lot of time developing him. We drafted him. He's a player that we value here, that I value especially, and I know everyone in that locker room does, as well.

So it's not something I'm entertaining. We want to sign Simon and hopefully get that done."

If Edvinsson does not sign a contract by Dec. 1, he will be ineligible to play this season.
