Could the Red Wings have Fared Better Against the Rangers than Washington Did?

Episode 24 of THN Detroit's hit podcast The Silky Mitten State is live!

On this week's show, my co-host Connor Earegood and I get started by discussing the Rangers' thorough and prompt sweep of the Washington Capitals, getting into whether and how the Red Wings might have fared better had they earned the final playoff spot in the East.

From there, we pivot into a brief discussion of the start of the Grand Rapids Griffins playoff run and exploring the potential stakes of that run for some of Detroit's top prospects, including Jonatan Berggren, Simon Edvinsson, Marco Kasper, Carter Mazur, and Sebastian Cossa.

Then, we spend most of the show discussing two of the legacy contenders in the Atlantic Division: the Maple Leafs and the Lightning.

With the Leafs, we jump into the controversy that emerged from a Game 4 lip reading of a conversation between the team's young stars: Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and Auston Matthews.  We discuss the mania that surrounds hockey in Toronto at all times and how these principal characters fit into that picture.  We also weigh in on some of the injury-related controversy in the series.

Finally, we discuss the end of the Lightning's season, Steven Stamkos' future and potential fit in Detroit, and whether we expect Tampa to remain a legitimate Cup contender in the years to come.
