Sporting a Red Wings-inspired palette, the Motor City’s new franchise hits the ice this December to chase the Walter Cup following a high-profile jersey reveal and schedule launch.
On Thursday, the PWHL made a major splash with the rollout of its four new franchises, including PWHL Detroit, which debuted its first-ever sweaters. The designs carry a familiar look for local fans, with colors similar to those of the Detroit Red Wings.
The home uniform is mainly black with red, white and grey accents, while the away uniform flips the formula, featuring white prominently alongside the same accent colors.
It promises to be an exciting first season for the PWHL in Detroit after a successful run of exhibition games in the Motor City earlier this year. The league's tour stopped by this past January, when the Vancouver Goldeneyes beat the Boston Fleet 4-3. The tour returned to Hockeytown in late March, where the Montréal Victoire topped the New York Sirens 3-1 in front of a nearly sold-out Little Caesars Arena.

One of the most notable games on the schedule comes January 20, when Detroit hosts the defending Walter Cup champion Montréal Victoire. It will be a chance for the new club to grab a statement win over the league's reigning title holder.
The season runs through mid-April, with Detroit closing out its schedule on the road against the Vancouver Goldeneyes. By then, the team will hope to have secured a playoff spot.
Heading into the inaugural campaign, Detroit sits in the middle of the pack among contenders. BetMGM lists the club at +900 odds to win the Walter Cup in its first season.
