The Red Wings announced their 2023 pre-season scheduling, featuring four pairs of home-and-homes.

On Thursday afternoon, the Red Wings announced their eight-game pre-season schedule for the 2023-24 campaign.

The Wings will play home-and-home sets against the Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks, and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Detroit will open its pre-season slate on September 26th with a home bout against the Penguins at Little Caesars Arena.  The Wings' pre-season will end on October 7th against Toronto, also at home.

After the Pittsburgh opener, Detroit will play a true home-and-home with the Capitals, starting in Washington then returning to LCA.  Then, the Wings will go through a run of four games in seven nights to open the month of October.

That journey will start with another true home-and-home with Chicago (opening in Detroit), before a second tilt with the Pens (this time in Pittsburgh).  After that, the Wings will travel to Toronto to play the Leafs at ScotiaBank Arena on the 6th before the end of pre-season action the next night.

While some teams use the pre-season to play in cities, towns, or arenas that they wouldn't normally frequent, Detroit is scheduled to play its entire pre-season run at familiar NHL arenas.

The schedule is nearly identical to last season's pre-season.  All four opponents remain from a year ago.  The only difference is that, last year, the Red Wings played three home-and-homes but didn't travel to Chicago, only playing the Blackhawks at home.
