Detroit will send a team of prospects to play two games with the Dallas Stars in a few weeks. Here's everything you need to know

We are within two weeks of the puck dropping on a fresh season of Detroit Red Wings hockey.  Yes, the regular season opener is still more than a month away, but the weekend after next, the Red Wings will send a roster of prospects up to Traverse City to get the new year officially underway.

The Traverse City prospect gathering has dwindled from eight-team tournament to a back-to-back with the Dallas Stars' prospects, which will be held on Saturday September 14th at 6 PM and then on Sunday the 15th at 2, both at Centre Ice Arena, the team's familiar Up North getaway.

Per Red Wings PR, 772 players (not just Red Wings) have graduated from the tournament to play at least one NHL game, including Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, and Moritz Seider.  Alex DeBrincat also played in the tournament as a Chicago Blackhawks prospect.  Here's an initial look at some of the Detroit prospects vying to become number 773 (and beyond):

As you can see, a number of the Red Wings' absolute top prospects will not take part, including Marco Kasper, Carter Mazur, Axel Sandin-Pellikka and goaltenders Trey Augustine and Sebastian Cossa. In their absence, Nate Danielson and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard will be Detroit's clear headliners, while Carter Gylander, Landon Miller (a fourth round pick this summer), and Gage Alexander (acquired in the trade that sent Robby Fabbri to Anaheim) will have the chance to establish a pecking order beyond Augustine and Cossa in terms of the organization's goaltending future.  It will also be another chance for Jakub Rychlovsky—signed this summer out of Czechia—to make an impression, after suiting up as a Red Wing for the first time at development camp.
