The Detroit Red Wings have secured additional organizational depth by signing forward Sheldon Dries to a two-year, two-way contract extension, the team announced.
Dries, 30, has spent the majority of the 2025–26 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins and is enjoying one of the most productive stretches of his professional career. Through 34 games, he has 15 goals and 14 assists for 29 points, putting him on pace to easily surpass his output from last season.
He was briefly recalled to Detroit earlier this year but did not appear in a game during that stint. This marks Dries’ second season in the Red Wings organization, after joining the Griffins last year. In his first campaign with Grand Rapids, he totaled 40 points in 64 games, a benchmark he is tracking well ahead of this season.

Dries also brings proven NHL experience as during the 2022–23 season, the Macomb Township, Michigan native played with the Vancouver Canucks and established himself as a regular lineup presence. He recorded 11 goals and six assists for 17 points in 63 NHL games. That experience has translated into a steady, veteran presence at the AHL level while keeping him ready for NHL duty if needed.
Going forward, Dries is expected to continue serving as a development and depth piece for Detroit, providing bottom-of-the-lineup insurance at the NHL level if needed while helping ensure Grand Rapids remains stocked with high-end, dependable talent.
