The Red Wings selected 5 players between the 4th and 7th rounds of the 2023 NHL Draft

The Detroit Red Wings made five selections across rounds four through seven of the 2023 NHL Draft.

With the 117th pick, the Red Wings tapped defenseman Larry Keenan.  Keenan last played for Culver Academy in Culver, Indiana, and he is committed to continue his career with UMass-Amherst.  He was ranked number 73 among North American Skaters by NHL Central Scouting.  Keenan notched 11 goals and 26 assists in 49 games for Culver.  His grandfather (also named Larry Keenan) played in 234 NHL games across eight seasons for the Maple Leafs, Blues, Sabres, and Flyers.

With the 137th selection, Detroit took defenseman Jack Phelan, last of the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede.  Phelan scored a goal and 4 assists in 59 games in Sioux Falls a year ago.  At 6-foot-4, 190 pounds, he is another sizable blue liner, and like fellow bulky defenseman Brady Cleveland (whom Detroit grabbed in the second round), Phelan is committed to play next at the University of Wisconsin.

With the 147th pick, the Red Wings snagged Kevin Bicker, a German-born left winger who last played for Mannheim in the DEL.  Mannheim is, of course, familiar to Detroit fans as the former home of Moritz Seider.  Bicker is a speedy and physical player, who spent most of last season with Mannheim's U20 team.  With that side, he scored 21 points in 20 games during an injury-plagued season.

In the 6th round, Detroit used pick number 169 on Rudy Guimond, a goaltender out of the Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut.  Guimond is from Pointe-Claire, Quebec, and he posted a .940 save percentage in 28 games.  He is committed to playing his college hockey at Yale.

In the 7th, the Red Wings took Emmitt Finnie at pick 201, last of the WHL's Kamloops Blazers.  He scored 9 goals and gave 26 assists in 64 games a year ago.  Finnie is young for his draft year, turning eighteen just two days ago on the 27th.  He finished the season strong, with a 10-game point streak to conclude his regular season, with 16 of his 35 points coming during that stretch.

In total, the Red Wings made 11 picks at the '23 Draft.
