This afternoon, the NHL announced the schedule for nationally televised games in collaboration with its American national broadcast partners, ESPN and TNT.
Per those announced schedules, the Detroit Red Wings will play 13 regular season games on national television in the U.S. this season, beginning with the season opener in New Jersey on October 12th.
Of the Red Wings' eight games on ESPN this season, four will air on terrestrial television (three on ESPN itself and one on ABC) and four will air on ESPN+/Hulu.
Based on this schedule, it will be necessary for American fans (whether they live in the Red Wings official television footprint or not) to have a cable/streaming television subscription and a subscription to ESPN+ and/or Hulu.
Games not airing nationally will be broadcast on Bally Sports Detroit, which seems to have overcome its declaration of bankruptcy last March (at least for now). For cord-cutting local fans (i.e. those in the Detroit market), Bally Sports Detroit is also available as Bally Sports Detroit+ in a streaming format. For fans outside the market, all local broadcasts are available on ESPN+, but a cable/YouTube TV/FuboTV/etc. subscription remains necessary to catch national broadcasts on ESPN, TNT, or ABC.
